Book People
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS I
have been working on a new series of 'Book People', starting with characters
from Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland', which were first exhibited at 20066 Knitting and Stitching Shows in Birmingham, London, and Harrogate. See
Exhibitions
page.

I have used old wine bottles as foundations for these figures,
and have built them up with seamless felting techniques and dry needle-felting
modelling. Each one features a quotation , associated with the character, from
the books of either 'Alice in Wonderland' or 'Through the Looking-Glass'
Inspired by the original illustration, my Queen orders, "Off with her
head".
From 'Through the Looking-Glass', Walrus
and Carpenter
The Duchess, "Speak roughly to your little boy and beat him when he
sneezes"
The Mad Hatter, "I see what I eat" is the same as "I eat what I
see."
White Queen, "Can you do dividsion? Divide a loaf by a knife - what's the
answer to that?"
Red Queen, "Where are you going? Look up. Speak nicely, and don't twiddle
your fingers all the time."
"Well then," the Cat went on, "you see a dog growls when it's
angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and
wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I am mad."
"The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, came whiffling through the tulgey
wood, and burbled as it came!"

The White Knight, "I'll tell thee everything I can: There's little to
relate. I saw an aged man, A-sitting on a gate."
